I was first introduced to the revered world of Thai amulets through my first Thai girlfriend, whose family hailed from Petchaburi Province. Her father gifted me my first Somdej amulet, sparking my fascination with these sacred objects.
Among the most extraordinary sets of Somdej amulets are those created by Luang Por (LP) Daeng of Wat Kao Bandai-It in Petchaburi Province, during B.E. 2513/2514 (1970-1971).
These amulets, regarded as some of the finest examples of LP Daeng’s work, are exceedingly rare and highly sought after by collectors.
The most exquisite amulets from this batch were crafted specifically for the temple committee and dedicated patrons who played significant roles in supporting Wat Kao Bandai-It.
The raw holy powder materials for these amulets were blessed over the course of several years at more than 300 temples from B.E. 2507 to 2511.
The amulets themselves were further blessed by LP Daeng over three years, from B.E. 2511 to 2513, culminating in their designation as the B.E. 2513 batch.
The amulets underwent additional consecrations at two ceremonies led by Dhan Chao Khun Nor at Wat Dhepsirin on April 25 and December 5, B.E. 2513. They were further blessed at significant ceremonies in B.E. 2514 at temples such as:
Wat Yai Chinnaraj
Wat Nangphya
Wat Sothorn
Wat Doi Mae Pang (presided over by LP Waen)
The amulets were officially distributed on October 14, B.E. 2514 at Wat Kao Bandai-It. As such, this batch may be referred to as B.E. 2513, B.E. 2514, or B.E. 2513/2514.
The composition of LP Daeng’s Somdej amulets reflects their profound spiritual power:
Sacred powder fragments from renowned amulets, including Somdej Wat Rakang, Somdej Bang Khun Phrom, and amulets from Wat Sampluen, Wat Indraviharn, and Wat Ngern Klongtoey.
Holy soil collected from four sacred Buddhist sites in India.
The Five Great Powders: Itthaje Powder, Maharaj Powder, Tri Nisinghae Powder, Padhamang Powder, and Budhakhun Powder.
Bronze dust from Buddha statues cast at significant temples, including Wat Palaelai (Suphanburi), Wat Dhevasangkharam (Kanchanaburi), Wat Bovornniwet, and others.
Holy soil from nine auspicious places in Thailand, such as Chai Nat, Chaiyaphum, and Hariphunchai, each named after “victory” (Chai).
Sacred water and candle wax from rituals at 109 temples.
Miraculous Stories of LP Daeng’s Somdej Amulets
1. Protection from Road Accidents
One of the most celebrated aspects of LP Daeng’s Somdej is its extraordinary protective power. Longtime corpse collectors have reported that they never found wearers of these amulets among road accident fatalities.
A famous incident involved a police parachutist from Narasuan Camp in Hua Hin, whose parachutes malfunctioned during a jump. Miraculously, a sudden wind carried him to a swamp, saving his life. The parachutist attributed his survival to wearing LP Daeng’s Somdej.
2. Shield Against Violence
In the past, Petchaburi was plagued by violent conflicts, where guns often decided disputes. LP Daeng’s Somdej amulets became legendary for their Klaew Klaad (harm avoidance) and Kong Kraphan Chatri (invincibility) properties. Numerous accounts describe bullets failing to penetrate the skin of wearers, leading to widespread belief in their miraculous power.
These stories even captured the attention of Hong Kong collectors, with many stars from the Shaw Brothers film studio prominently wearing LP Daeng amulets. Enthusiasts from Hong Kong were known to pay substantial sums for these sacred objects.
Beyond their protective powers, LP Daeng’s Somdej amulets are renowned for their Metta Mahaniyom (loving-kindness) and wealth-attracting properties.
The inclusion of sacred powders from historically significant amulets amplifies their auspicious energy.
Devotees report life-changing improvements in fortune and relationships after wearing these amulets.
The amulet’s texture and sacred ingredients resonate with blessings for:
Wealth and Prosperity: Many wearers experience unexpected financial gains and business success.
Kindness and Popularity: Enhanced charisma and rapport with others are commonly attributed to its Metta Mahaniyom energy.
Invincibility and Peace: A calming sense of security and inner strength accompanies wearers.
The B.E. 2513/2514 batch of LP Daeng’s Somdej amulets remains a cornerstone of Thai amulet culture. Their remarkable stories of protection, wealth, and Metta continue to inspire faith and devotion among collectors and wearers worldwide.
This sacred lineage bridges tradition and spirituality, offering blessings to those fortunate enough to possess these extraordinary relics.
