Luang Phor Jong was a highly respected Thai Buddhist monk known for his deep spiritual wisdom, humility, and miraculous abilities. He served as the abbot of Wat NaTangNok in Bang Sai District, Ayutthaya Province.

Early Life and Ordination

Luang Phor Jong was born in 2415 (1872) in a modest Thai village. From a young age, he displayed a strong inclination towards Buddhist practice and eventually ordained as a monk.

His early years in the Sangha were marked by intense meditation, scriptural studies, and training under highly esteemed masters of his time.

Teachers and Spiritual Lineage

Luang Phor Jong was a contemporary and close associate of Luang Phor Parn (หลวงพ่อปาน) of Wat BangNomKho. They both studied under great masters, including:

Even though Luang Phor Parn himself was renowned for his supernatural abilities, he held Luang Phor Jong in the highest regard, often referring to him as a truly enlightened monk.

The Humble Guardian of the Boat

A well-known story about Luang Phor Jong showcases his humility. Once, while resting at a pier, he was approached by a group of men who mistook him for an ordinary villager.

They asked him to guard their boat while they left. Without hesitation, Luang Phor Jong agreed and remained there until midnight. When the men returned and realized who he was, they were deeply moved and sought his forgiveness.

Luang Phor Jong was known for his selflessness. He instructed his disciples to dismantle their own lodging structures to donate materials to temples in need.

When thieves came to his temple, instead of cursing them, he willingly offered them valuables while advising them on the karmic consequences of stealing. Many of these individuals later repented and changed their ways.

The Miraculous Finger Relic

One of the most extraordinary events surrounding Luang Phor Jong happened during his cremation. As his body was being cremated, one of his fingers remained intact and could not be burned.

This was seen as a divine sign of his spiritual power and purity. The unburnt finger was later enshrined at Wat NaTangNok, where it remains a sacred relic for devotees to pay homage to. Many believe that this relic continues to radiate spiritual blessings and protection.

Final Years and Passing

Luang Phor Jong passed away in 2508 (1965) at the age of 93. His passing coincided with Makha Bucha Day, a significant Buddhist holy day, further affirming his revered status.

Even after his passing, his teachings and spiritual influence remain strong. His amulets continue to be sought after by devotees, and his legacy of kindness and selfless giving continues to inspire Buddhists and amulet collectors worldwide.
